10GBASE-CX4 was the first 10G copper standard put forth by the IEEE Std. 802. CX4 cables are widely used in applications connecting processing clusters to storage nodes.
10GBase Ethernet is the most recent and fastest of the Ethernet covering short distances, up to 50 feet, using twinaxial cable. It gets its name because it is intended to run over CX4, or 4 pairs of twinaxial copper wiring. It has a nominal data rate of 10Gbit/sec, 10 times as fast as gigabit Ethernet. It is also referred to as 802.3ak.
