Corning Cable Systems Octal Fan-Out Kits provide a low-cost furcation option for ribbon interconnect cables. Offering the end-user simple step-by-step assembly, these kits are designed for factory and field termination of standard ribbon interconnect cables to 2.0 mm legs. Installation of the kits eliminates the need for patch panels at low-cost termination points and provides protection when terminating for use as jumpers or patch cords.

The octal fan-out kit terminates and provides pull-out protection for bare ribbons. The cable jacket is simply stripped back and the fibers are deribbonized and threaded into the modular 12-fiber fan-out inserts consisting of (12) 1 m lengths of fan-out tubing secured in a composite assembly. Comprised of an inner tube, an aramid yarn strength member and an outer protective PVDF jacket, the rectangular fan-out tubing provides three layers of protection. The ribbon fan-out insert then snaps into the main octal body. The outer housing is installed to complete the assembly.
