The ferrule in the E2000 connector is protected by the integrated spring-loaded shutter. The connector housing protects the ferrule all round against dust, dirt and scratches.

Similar to the LC connector, the E2000 connector is easy to install, with a push-pull latching mechanism which clicks when fully inserted, spring-loaded shutter which fully protects the ferrule in which the shutter automatically opens when plugged in.
