AFL, as a subsidiary of Fujikura, is part of a company with a rich legacy in the communications industry. Fujikura, one of Japan's oldest manufacturers of cables and wires, has been a key player in the field for over 130 years. Telecommunications has been central to Fujikura's success, with a notable milestone occurring in 1869 when the company completed its first cable installation between a lighthouse and a courthouse for a telegraph station in Yokohama City. This innovation was soon followed by the introduction of electric lighting in Japan just seven years later.Initially created to manufacture fiber optic ground wire for the public utility industry at its Duncan, SC, facility, AFL became fully owned by Fujikura in 2005. Following this acquisition, Fujikura moved AFL's headquarters to Duncan, SC.
